Syringe Method

1. Follow hospital policies and procedures for blood sampling
2. Only use a luer lock syringe to withdraw blood sample
3. Connect syringe by holding the syringe by the #1, PUSH and then TURN clockwise
4. Pull the plunger back slowly, 1mL at a time, this prevents a vacuum from forming in the syringe barrel
5. Using a luer transfer device, transfer blood from the syringe to the appropriate specimen collection tube
